Every now and then, Nick Cannon says a few questionable words that A) leave the general public perplexed and B) opens up the floodgates for discourse online. Case in point: The former Wild N’ Out star appeared on the May 2 episode of The TMZ Podcastand openly admitted that he has a “double standard” when it comes to his 15-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, and their dating lives.

“My son [Moroccan] has been dating, and I’ve allowed it, I encouraged it,” he said during the episode. “And my daughter…”

The podcast host (rightfully) said, “I hope you’ve been allowing it and encouraging that, too,” but Nick responded, “No, absolutely not.”

“First of all, it’s absolutely a double standard… And I know I get in trouble a lot ‘cause I say things with my chest. But there is a difference when parenting a son and then when parenting a daughter,” he explained. “I am more protective of my daughter because there [are] things out there that I have to protect my daughter from. Like, as we know, there are a certain type of individuals that you want to keep your daughter away from.”

The father of 12—who shares Moroccan and Monroe with his ex-wife, Mariah Carey—doubled down on his stance, and even said that letting his daughter date could potentially lead to him ending up in jail if an unfortunate incident were to happen. “If somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I’m going to jail,” he added. “If some man puts his hands on my daughter, it’s my worst nightmare because I am going to jail forever.”

While Nick’s thought process feels…a little extreme, he did note that Monroe is allowed to go on dates, with a few exceptions. “We made a deal. If she can explain to me what’s going to happen on these dates, then she can go,” he said. “‘Your twin brother can go with you.’ That’s what I do. But you ain’t going one-on-one with no little bastard anywhere.”

College is on the horizon for both Moroccan and Monroe in the future, and as far as controlling her dating life then, Nick said, “it’s out of my control there.”

“I can’t do nothing about it,” he continued. “Hopefully, we’re having these open conversations. My daughter tells me any and everything, and even though I’m apprehensive, like, if you can explain it to [me] ... I want you to have all the questions answered or whatever, and you make the best decision possible.”
